Tips to staying productive with a newborn!

Updated: Oct 17, 2021

Here are my top 6 tips to staying productive with a newborn!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

I can’t tell you how many times I am about to finally get something done and then I hear it…. “Waaaaaaaaa!”⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

It’s not easy being a mama to a newborn. It’s a lot of work and very demanding. But there are still ways you can be productive and check things off your to do list!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

1. Having a routine for you and baby - Newborn sleep schedules will save your life! That way you know when to feed, change and put the baby down for a nap. I would plan my entire day around his sleep schedule. I knew I had about 2-3 hours to get things done before he woke up. You can use an app on your phone to track his schedule, diapers and feedings. You can also get a dry erase board to put on your fridge or a write it down in a newborn tracking journal.

2. Baby swing - My baby loves to sleep and hang out in his swing. It plays music, has a mobile with lights, and swings back and forth. This will keep him comfy and preoccupied. Below is the swing we had! Its really good quality and easy to use. The bottom is detachable so you can take the baby with you all around the house.

3. Don’t get your baby use to your arms - Not saying don’t hold your baby but you can’t get things done if your baby is ONLY happy in your arms 24 hours a day. Get your baby comfortable sitting in a swing or baby bouncer. This way your hands are freed up to get stuff done. Below is my favorite baby lounger! This is seat folds down so its easy to store and also easy to take with you on vacations!

4. Bring your baby with you - Whenever I am doing laundry or cooking I will bring my baby in his bouncer or swing and have him facing me. This way i can still interact with him while being productive. Below is another type of portable baby lounger/rocker.

5. Baby monitor - If my baby is taking a nap his bassinet or crib I will just bring the baby monitor with me. I can keep an eye on him while I’m cooking or putting laundry away. We have an owlet camera installed on the wall in our nursery. I love this monitor because it monitors his oxygen and heart rate. But when I am in different parts of the house and I need a camera on him I just use a cheaper portable camera. We purchased the Vtech baby monitor and it does the job.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

6. Get the baby use to loud noise - “Shhhh the baby is sleeping” is not a phrase we use in our home. We wanted our baby to be accustomed to every day sounds. Our baby can sleep through a fair amount of noise. We also have a sound machine in his room to help block out any excess noise.
